Day 6 and 7

Well as it is nearly 9 o'clock on day 7 I am combining the two. Yesterday was another perfect landlubbing day in paradise at Mooloolaba: exercising, swimming, eating etc.

Today was different. Setting off at 5:30 am we had a big day ahead as our destination was Fraser Island. Of course the predicted winds didn't happen, but we didn't mind going on one motor in glorious sunshine with dolphins under the bow. If only my arm was a little longer I could have touched them, even held onto their fins and swam along. They were so close.

After finally reaching the Wide Bay bar we were prepared to wait for the high tide. However upon checking with the Tin Can Bay Coastguard, we decided to backtrack the 10 nmiles to Double Island Point in the dark. Well actually the full moon did rise at about 6:30. As well the wind did reach it's forecast 12 knots now that we were against it.

We are now safely anchored in the lee of Double Island Point and will endeavour to make the crossing tomorow. Capt M says it's not as bad an anchorage as Tangalooma. I have yet to pass judgement. By the way we had our first game of magnetic scrabble at the helm today. Capt M must have enjoyed it as he had to have a lie down after.

Day 5

Another gorgeous Autumn day. John is driving our car down to take Capt M to a chandlery? Always need something. I'm not wasting such a day at the shops but enjoy a walk and a swim in the ocean. Glorious, water temperature 22c and I swam between the flags.

Found the laundromat and did a load early, it's hanging out to dry on the boat.

Capt M and John join me for lunch at one of the many coastal cafes "Bellissimo". Coffee and cake afterwards.

Have spotted some exercise equipment in a park nearby which I will definitely be using tomorow.

Must take photos, I have been cheating and using old ones from previous trips. This one was taken in the winter of 2008 on our last trip here. It's much warmer today with lots of people swimming at this beach.

Day 4

Took off early for Mooloolaba. Despite lack of wind for the first half and a strong sail the rest of the way. My stomach doesn't like the rolling waves. Just have to lie down and relax. At least you lose your appetite for a while.

Got into the river safely all going well until we got stuck on the low tide. I'm pushing with the boat hook and "jumping up and down" on the other side until finally off.

Nice, still anchorage for the night, so glassy.

John and Pauline came down for fish and chips aboard. Had a good laugh about the Blog!

Day 3

Lots of rock 'n roll last night at Tangalooma. Not the music, more the motion of the ocean. However managed to have an nice snorkell off the wrecks. Water temperature perfect and lots of different fish. Even though the wind is cool while travelling, when we anchor it is still very warm in the day.

Got ashore with minimal wetness, (love my raincoat pants) despite paddling the wrong way when disembarking the dinghy. Watched a magnificent sunset while sipping a glass of white.

Some nice Italian guy backpakers clapped at the end. This reminded me of Hawaii.

Had dinner ashore as well, despite 15% surcharge for a public holiday!

Yes Tangalooma is on the western side of Moreton Island, just like Kuta. I wonder how many more sunsets we will see from the west?

day 2

Hi ho and off we go across Moreton Bay toward Tangalooma. My first time on the computer while actually sailing. Have just put up the main sail, sun is shining and doing 5 knots.

Tried skipping this morning, captain M says it is too noisy and would you believe my shoes have black soles? not in the good books. All the details you think of after you have left. I didn't even bring a yoga mat or hand weights in order to keep weight down..Haha there was a pun in there somewhere.

At least i am exercising the brain? with crosswords.

Now to sort out how others can actually read this thing.

Day 1

We have finally set "sail"(motor so far),and i have started a blog. It took me a while to organise my pictures and i still haven't finished, but if i waited until i did that it wouldn't happen.

This morning we awoke to a beautiful sight of glassy water and brilliant sunshine in the Canaipa Passage. About 20 other craft were sharing the scene. Unfortunately not the right wind to sail north again today so we shall just relax....

captain M says he heard the faint sound of a bugle around dawn, i was sound asleep.

My second born's birthday today as well as ANZAC. Have already messaged and phoned. I think being away makes one more conscious of the celebrations in life. Oh no, I knew we should have brought more champagne!
